1.4: What Does Ethics in Aviation Profession Mean to You?
Ethics: A set of moral principles. Ethics is important in our everyday lives, but most significantly in our work lives. Ethics is made up of several different values, these include; trust, responsibility for one’s actions, a sense of right and wrong, and in my opinion the most important, the adherence to one’s beliefs in the face of pressure to do otherwise. If you’re under pressure and the decision to do something truly essential to the job lies in your hands, could you do it? The aviation industry is not an easy one. It takes a lot of effort, commitment, and communication from one another. I definitely feel like ethics takes a role in how you do any aviation job. But how exactly does it play its role? Everyone plays a role in how well a job is done. We have flight crew, pilots, airlines, and many more individual jobs that require someone to have some ethical value. For instance, if something is wrong either with the plane or any outside gear, it is someone’s right of duty to be able to report it and try to fix it before continuing. Otherwise, this could put a lot of people’s lives in danger. Fortunately, the FAA or the Federal Aviation Administration contributes to these ethical principles. It enforces regulations that look out for operating, manufacturing, and maintaining an aircraft. It is a career numerous people love but it takes acceptable decisions to be able to run everything smoothly and safely.
